About the company
Law No. (33) of 2005 established the Qatar Financial Markets Authority and transformed the Doha Securities Market (now the Qatar Stock Exchange) into a Qatari joint-stock company for the purpose of regulating and supervising financial markets. The law granted the Authority all necessary regulatory, supervisory, and oversight powers to carry out its duties.
The Authority officially assumed its responsibilities in September 2007, and the market, listed companies, and financial services companies were notified of the formal transfer of supervisory and oversight duties from the market to the Authority, after the market had performed these functions for the preceding 10 years.
To keep pace with developments in financial markets, Law No. (8) of 2012 concerning the Qatar Financial Markets Authority was issued and came into effect on October 18, 2012, thereby replacing Law No. (33) of 2005.
