Sharjah Radio and Television Authority is a governmental body concerned with the development and advancement of the media sector in the Emirate of Sharjah. It emerged as a natural progression of the expanding television and radio media work since the launch of Sharjah TV on February 11, 1989, followed by the establishment of Sharjah Media Institution in 2009, culminating in the inauguration of Sharjah Radio and Television Authority in 2019. It hosts a number of television channels and radio stations, and the centers are: Sharjah Channel, Sharjah Sports Channel, Al Sharqiya Channel from Kalba, Al Wusta Channel from Al Dhaid, Sharjah 2 Channel, Sharjah Radio, Holy Quran Radio from Sharjah, Plus 95 Radio broadcasting in English, and Sharjah Media Training Center.
The Authority sets a range of main objectives that define its operational framework and chart its course, most notably: contributing to the development of national media cadres capable of keeping pace with contemporary developmental requirements, enhancing the role of media, especially in building and strengthening family cohesion, developing media performance based on professionalism, excellence, creativity, and responsible freedom, and adhering to media ethics.
