About Cairo International Book Fair 2026
Culture and ArtsIt is considered one of the largest book fairs in the Middle East, and in 2006 it was regarded as the second largest fair after the Frankfurt International Book Fair. The 55th edition of the fair was visited by 4,785,539 visitors.
It began in 1969, at a time when Cairo was celebrating its millennium, so the then Minister of Culture, Tharwat Okasha, decided to celebrate the occasion culturally, entrusting the writer and researcher Soheir El-Qalamawi with supervising the establishment of the first book fair. For this reason, the 2008 edition celebrated El-Qalamawi as the Personality of the Year.
