About World Urban Forum 2024

Environment and Sustainability

The United Nations established the World Urban Forum in 2001 to address one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change, and policies.

The Forum, convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), is a high-level, open, and inclusive platform for addressing the challenges of sustainable urbanization.

The World Urban Forum aims to achieve the following objectives:

Increase awareness of sustainable urbanization among stakeholders and concerned circles, including the general public;
Enhance collective knowledge about sustainable urban development through open and inclusive discussion, exchange of best practices and policies, and sharing of lessons learned.
Promote cooperation and collaboration among various stakeholders and concerned circles involved in advancing and implementing sustainable urbanization.
